The Book

I recently wrote a pre-review on a book called Bible Illuminated and I was so excited to finally get my copy. This being a very busy week, I had sat it on my desk until I could get to it. My teen came in to talk to me about something and immediately picked up the book and started flipping through it, the magazine format seems to call to you to do just this. What really pulled her into it was the photo on the cover and then the pictures throughout kept her interest. She was remarking on how touching and beautiful the photos were, then she realized what she was holding. "Mom, this is a bible!", "Yes, yes it is."

My daughter and I have different opinions on the duty of a bible. For me, maybe because I am getting older, I need the words, the comfort, the hope that this book offers me. I have several bibles on my bookshelf that all serve a different purpose. One is a family bible that I received when my mother passed away, I was so shocked that she owned a bible and I plan to pass this one on through the generations. I have a simple, no bells and whistles, hard backed bible that I write in and highlight scripture to pass on to my oldest when she starts her new independent life. I own a "Woman's" bible that I love to draw inspiration from. You get the picture.

Taylor on the other hand is in that space of her life where she needs answers, confirmation that the bible is really what she needs to base her life on. She is a believer in God, but she does not, and should not, just follow the faith because we tell her to. It has to be real to her, she has to understand it and believe it for herself. We have tried many different forms of bibles for her, but none of them really showed her the relevance she was looking for. I think she has now found some of that in this new version. She loved the way it connects the Word with photographs she knows and can relate to. I watched the lightbulb go on in her eyes. That was very cool.

When I did the pre-review, I thought this project was smart and artful. Now that we have The Book in our home and in our hands, I realize that it is so much more. When you go out and get your copy or you see it on a friend's coffee table, please come back here and tell me your thoughts. I would love to see if you think it is as beneficial, or if you think that it is Tres cool, as well.

Thanks for this. I really appreciate your perspective. I've also put in my 2 cents about the project, for anyone who may be interested.

Grace and Peace,
