Last Saturday we attended the first TN Diabetes Get Together that our friend Cara over at Every Day Every Hour Every Minute coordinated. This thing did not come together easily and there were many people who were not able to attend, but I am thinking that can only mean we must do it again. =) For our family, it was a challenge to get there. Daniel was so excited about the whole thing but once in the car and on the road, he got sick. We had to stop and get him a change of clothes, clean out the car, etc. Then we stopped on our way out of town to pick up sodas and he got sick again. He was determined that he would get there so we kept going. I am glad we did. Once there, he calmed down and was fine but a trip that should have taken us about 45 minutes ended up taking us about 2 hours.
Cara brought a friend who lives with Type 2 and I invited a friend that has Type 1. A gentleman that I had met through my friend also attended. He lost his wife a couple of years ago to Type 1 and previously she had also lost her sister to Type 1. I am so glad he was there, he is such an inspiration. He loved his wife with all of his heart and when she needed a kidney transplant, he stepped up and gave her one of his. After 2 years he is still in mourning for the love of his life.
The day was fun, the weather was beautiful, the conversation was flowing. There was a battle with the bees for the food, of course the Tic-Tac-Toe challenge, lots of laughter and a very cool bonding of imaginary friends. You see, while I had the opportunity to meet Cara a couple of weeks ago, my friend C whom I have talked to for over two years online and even lived in the same town with, I only just met in person on Saturday. Yep, still amazed at the instant connection of meeting our imaginary friends.
My beautiful friend C took some great pictures of the day, and Mr. A took some more with her camera. You can really tell the ones he took because we could not stop laughing. Here is a sampling of this wonderful get together and I for one am definitely looking forward to the next one.

I had to include a goofy shot, look at my kids!

The gals and Daniel.

Awesome!
I can literally see Daniel growing!
I really am going to get my post up. I promise. It's just a super busy week this week. :) Hopefully it will be up before the weekend.
George - It was fun and I can't wait to meet more imaginary friends.
Scott - They grow up too fast, don't they?
Cara - Not rushing you. =) Thank you for putting it together.
