Spring!

Spring is on the way! How do I know this? Yesterday my kids were home for a snow day and I spent the day spring cleaning. Why have I started so early? Because my friends the actual spring will be too busy to clean and it is just around the corner.

Sarah will be doing Coach Pitch this year and the draft is on the 4th. She is so excited she can't stand herself. She is the only one of my kids who received the athletic gene and you should see her connect with the ball. She may be little but she is a spitfire.

Daniel will be starting Karate in March. Spring break is only a couple of weeks away, during which there will be much painting of rooms and house projects going on. I have already started renovating my stairwell back to the original bead board. It is going to be beautiful.

At the end of March we will be receiving a box. A box with holes in it. My kids could not be more thrilled. Do you want to know what will be in the box? 25 two day old baby chickens. That's right, chickens. Yea! Daniel is in 4H this year and he will be doing the chick link project. He raises 25 chickens and then in October he will take the best 5 to the fair for sale. We are in the process of putting together the temporary brooding station that they will live in until we get the chicken house mended and build the fence for the chicken yard. We are just waiting for a couple of sunny days to start the renovation.

I purchased a tiller this week. It is used and I got a great deal, I just need to clean the carburetor and do a tune up on it and it should be good as new. I can't wait to get that garden started. My compost pile is just waiting to be put to use and the kids are looking forward to the fresh vegetables. I think being outside in the fresh air will do us all some good.

Taylor is looking for her first job, so I figure she won't be around a whole lot to help with any of the projects. Daniel and Sarah, however, can not wait. Sarah is my shadow and a great helper. Daniel is excited but I know getting him to stick to any one task is going to be a challenge. He will like hanging out outside with us, just maybe not helping so much.

The next thing will be to get my two goats. I need goats, they make me happy. Besides I have a field behind our barn that will need to be kept mowed down. What better lawn mower is there than goats? Yes folks, my hobby farm is coming together. I look forward to canning in the summer and teaching my kids, ok Sarah, the wonderful homemaking skills my Grandma taught me.

You can clean a carburetor and do a tune up!?! You have always impressed me as a woman of many talents - but I'm even more impressed.
No spring here for awhile...

You are the woman! Chickens and goats. That's cool.

With all the snow, we won't be seeing ground for another month or so......

Colleen, lol, you know the old saying...A man's work is from sun to sun but a woman's work is never done.

Shannon, Fresh eggs and an environmentally friendly lawn mower, it doesn't get much better than that. LOL

I hope you guys get thawed out soon.

Sarah, You are a warrior woman and I have deep respect for you.

Chris, You are one funny man.

Jonah, Good to hear from you, how are you? In answer to your question, we will keep the other chickens. They will give us fresh eggs and in time we will get a rooster so we can raise more chicks for meat.
